It made me chuckle...

I have to admit, the humor is well timed. I also like the visuals, and I love how you did the replay feature.

The voices aren't bad, although they could be better. I like the part with the sun and the robot (I wish you could have done that to the sun in Super Mario Bros. 3).

I wish you had spent a little more time on this to make the graphics a little more refined. They're okay given the humor, but if you could do this in two days, think how much more polished and better it would be in two weeks.

Still, I laughted, so this Flash movie did its job.

Not bad for a test...

Rotoscoping by hand is harder than people think, so I appreciate that you attempted to do something different.

The main problem with this is that it seems as though you attempted to draw over the video frames, without any sense of the transition between frames. As a result, the aninmation, even with a low fps, is not as good as it could be. Rotoscoping, and animation in general, is as much about imagination as much as the faithful recreation of live movement.

Still, this isn't bad for a test. I want to see you do better, though.

Not bad, not bad at all.

Although you've grown leaps and bounds from when this movie was made, this entry is pretty entertaining, if a bit predictable. Still, it managed to make me chuckle pretty heartily.

Very Original

It's very hard to make an effective animation without sound effects, but you've done it. I like this whole nonsensical world that comes to life, piece by piece. I really, really like the two play buttons.

My only problem with this piece is that the soundtrack, while fitting, was still a little laid back. While it gave a soothing sensation to the animation, it didn't provide enough of a contrast or complement with the visuals. The music almost put me to sleep, but fortunately, the inventiveness of the visuals overrode this fault.

Looks nice, but needs a little tweaking...

This isn't a bad peice, and it certainly looks nice. It also has an educational aspect that is missing from a lot of Newgrounds pieces.

The sound and timing, though, despite being of high audio quality, mar what could be a phenomenal Flash. The whole thing is timed like a history lesson, which means it goes slow. That would be great if the sound were a little more dynamic. Instead, we get background music that does not loop properly, and sound effects that are far too sparce in frequency. This, when combined with the torpid pace, makes this movie an exercise of looking at the pictures rather than learning about the subject.

Another issue is that this piece doesn't give much background information but goes directly into the presentation. As a result, anyone who is completely unfamiliar with this historical event is completely lost from the beginning. Combine this with the problems as listed above and you get a piece that looks polished and has an aim, but despite its precision is never to achieve true accuracy.

If I were a teacher, I'd give you an A, since it's clear you worked on this and the audience would be more familiar with the matter. But for Newgrounds, it has to do more than inform; it has to engage.

Phenomenal Pixel Art!

What a great entry. Pixel art is a time-consuming tedious art form, and it is even harder to animate it well given the discrete boundaries that need to be followed. Not only did you make a visually pleasing Flash, but a very imaginative one as well. You picked an excellent song as well. Great work!

Needs more depth...

There's a decent core to this Flash, but buried behind a mountain of inadequacy.

The graphics consisist of five objects, two of which are the characters. The musical interjections were okay, but that's the only sound. In order for this piece to improve, it has to have more elements and more in depth. Also, the comic timing while not bad, needs to be sharpened.

This isn't that terrible of an idea, but the movie certainly looks, sounds, and plays like a bad Flash.

A very funny short

The idea of getting a present for a loved one at the last minute is a good one for a short animation, and I love the disalogue and acting in this piece. The art style fit the short perfectly, and overall, this piece won me over with its writing and charm.

My only quibble is that the sound is compressed so much, but I could understand the characters, so it's not a critical error, but one I did notice.

Joonza responds:

Yea, about the sounds, It's kinda pain in the ass, I think. I have to speak to my microphone JUST CORRECTLY. If I speak too quietly, You can't hear it in the flash. If I speak too loud the sound starts to tremble, and that's not good. Ty for the review. :)

Hilarious!

This is a wonderful piece that is not only animated well, but has an intelligent use of sound and humor that doesn't merely settle for the comedic tropes but subverts them. You are a master of comic timing. Thumbs up!

Better than the source material!

Translating a comic to an actual animated product is hard, but you have done it well. I love that you've brought your own style to work, but what I like best is the use of sound and pacing. Instead of trying to recreate the dialogue, you actually used the limited sounds and silence to convey the message more effectively than a torrent of words ever could.

You didn't just animate the comic. You improved upon it.

There's nothing to say, except that I like watching Flash movies on Newgrounds.
